Its been a full three weeks since I’ve last updated this section of my site, and even longer since I’ve updated most other aspects of my website. Yes, I added one or two random thoughts in the last few weeks, and I changed the background color of my main page to reflect the current Terror Alert Level, but I’ve certainly neglected this and all other aspects of my page. I’ve had an idea or two to rant on, but two ideas in 21 days is a bit thin, so I’m asking you, nay, begging you for some topics for me to rant on. Please go post some ideas in my Message Forum. Any ideas you have would be appreciated. I don’t guarantee that I’ll rant on your subject, but if it’s a good idea that is worth some of my time, I will certainly try and complain about said topic in some way.
But for now, I have a rant to take care of. I went to Matrix Reloaded tonight with a few friends. I thought it was a very good movie, a little all over the place toward the end, but I kind of liked that. The thing that bothered me was this incredibly stupid woman that brought her baby to the movie. For one, it was a 9:10 pm showing, and any woman that keeps her baby up that late at night should be investigated by social services. And two, don’t bring your damn crying baby to the movie theater! People like you should not be allowed to reproduce. But is this woman the only one to blame? No, a cinema shouldn’t allow someone with a baby into a movie. Babies cry, often. They are going to cry if they are brought to a movie. To say the people in the theater were getting quite upset by this occurrence is a great understatement. When you pay $7 to see a movie, you don’t want it interrupted because someone with an extra chromosome didn’t figure out the whole “don’t bring your baby to a movie” thing. (Yeah, it’s only $7 in Fargo for an evening show. What do you think of that, people of New York?)
Now, I don’t want to suggest that there should be a law against bringing your baby to a movie. (Frankly, anyone that would even consider bringing their baby to a movie should be shot. In the head. Repeatedly.) But cinemas such as West Acres Cinema and the entire C.E.C. chain should have a policy in place that prohibits this sort of thing. No exceptions should be made. I don’t have a problem with bringing your three year old son, or four year old niece to see Chicken Run or the latest Disney release, but don’t bring your six month old daughter to Matrix Reloaded at 9:10 pm, or at any time for that matter.
As I sat watching the WDAY news last night I thought I heard something funny. It almost sounded as though they said Governor Hoven signed into law a bill raising the speed limit in North Dakota from 70 to 75 miles per hour on our Interstate Highways. I thought I was imagining this since Gov. Hoven vetoed a 75 mile per hour speed limit two years ago and the state senate already defeated one bill that would’ve raised the speed limit this year. But, sure enough, I found an article online stating that Gov. Hoven did indeed sign into law on Friday a 75 mile per hour speed limit in North Dakota. (Source)
Finally, the state legislature did something that may be good for this state. But passing one bill and having it signed into law isn’t going to be enough for this state. They still continue to require restrictions in this state that were implemented decades ago that can only hurt our economy today, such as the anti-corporate farming laws. I’ve said it time and time again; we need to focus this state’s economy on tomorrow, rather than yesterday. This state as a whole needs to wake up and realize there will be no North Dakota tomorrow if something isn’t done today.
